1,000 Punches and 1,000 Kicks

With the end of the year comes the second of the bi-annual London Dojo 1,000 kicks and 1,000 punches events. The December 2011 session saw the London Dojo students line up to be led through the challenge by Tohyama Sensei.

The rules are simple - perform 1,000 punches then 1,000 kicks, each to the same location. Everybody counts 20 moves in turn and if someone misses the count, we all start again from zero.

London Dojo Christmas Party 2011

The annual London Dojo Christmas Party was held on December 3rd 2011.

This year's event proved as popular as ever and dojo members were treated to a beautiful array of Japanese food, entertainment from both the junior and senior dojo members and prizes awarded to outstanding members.

Nikoleishvili was simply great. He is only 173cm, 20 years old and this is his first world Tournament. He changed Kyokushin history in many ways.

London Dojo 2nd Kata Seminar
Date: 23 October 2011 (Sun)


The 2nd London Dojo Kata Seminar was held at the Acton Dojo on 23rd October 2011. Numbers for this event were limited to only 20 of the higher grade students as the selected katas for this event were Pinan Sono San and Garyu.

For each Kata students were given detailed instruction in the individual movements and their application in Bunkai Kumite.

2011 British Championship Results

On Saturday 10th September 22 fighters from the London Dojo travelled to Wodson Park Sports Centre, Ware, Hertfordshire to compete in the 2011 British Championships.

With competitors from around the country and overseas the competition got off to a successful start with London Dojo members winning eight trophies in the kata competition including a 1-2-3 in the Kids Under 9 and the Ladies Senior Under 3rd Kyu categories. In the kumite the London Dojo continued its success by winning a further six trophies including three 1st place results. This was followed with presentations for the Fastest KO (Men Senior) and Most Spirited Fighter (Kids) awards going to Evgeny Semeykin and Aoi Fukushima respectively.

Well done to all the competitors and congratulations to the winners.

London Dojo 1st Kata Seminar
Date: 13 August 2011 (Sat)


New to the London Dojo are the quarterly Kata Seminars. The 1st was held at the Euston Dojo 2 and doubled as preparation for the compulsory Katas to be performed at the British Open.

Those lucky enough to secure a place were given detailed explanation and Bunkai Kumite applications for Taikyoku Sono San, Pinan Sono Yon and Gekisai Sho.

Goju-Ryu Seminar
Date: 30 July 2011 (Sat)


Students from the London Dojo were treated to a special Gojyu-Ryu Karate seminar by one of the most respected Gojyu-Ryu Shihans in the world, Shihan Yamamoto.

The session covered stretching, Kihon, Ido, Kata and Kata Bunkai all in the Gojyu-Ryu way and was described as an amazing experience by those fortunate enough to take part.

London Dojo Outdoor Training 2011
Date: 5 June 2011 (Sun)


Outdoor Training 2011 began in the Kyokushin way with everyone cleaning up the training area. Once finished warm ups commenced in the form of jogging and quick runs.

This year's session lasted for 6 hours and began with Kihon, in sets of 20, followed by Ido-Geiko including 100 steps of Zenkutsu Seiken Chudanzuki. Kata practice was next and students were introduced to Jyuji No Kata. Before the break for lunch a selection of students were chosen for a Tameshiwari demonstration to emphasise what the students had been practicing.

25th European Weight Category Championships
Padova, Italy

'The Final Selection From European Countries' was the title for this year's European Weight Category Tournament. The final selection refers to the 10th World Tournament in Tokyo this November and only the top 2 fighters from each category will receive invitations to the World Tournament.

Tohyama Sensei was especially impressed with 2 fighters from this tournament; Piotr Moczydlowski (light weight, from Poland) and Oleksandr Ieromenko (heavy weight, from Ukraine). Piotr has incredibly sharp technique with an amazingly strong spirit. He can fight against heavy weight fighters without problem. Oleksandr is getting better every time Tohyama Sensei sees him fight. He creates very heavy attacks each time and never goes backwards.

European Open 2011

This year's European Open Tournament took place at Bercy in Paris with Kancho Shokei Matsui, Shihan Seiji Isobe and Shihan Katsuhito Gorai as a part of the France's biggest Marshal Arts Festival which is organized by "Karate Bushido" Magazine and French Karate Federation.

The top 8 fighters were selected for the World Tournament in Tokyo this November.

London Dojo's 4th Internal Kata Tournament

The 4th Internal Kata Tournament was held in the large hall at the Finchley Dojo. With the passing of each event the standard of kata has become higher and higher. In particular the green belt teenager demonstrations were excellent.

Sensei Ryuji Ukita Promoted to Ni Dan
Date: 5 February 2011 (Sat)


Sensei Ryuji Ukita successfully was promoted to Ni Dan at this year's Black Belt promotion at Winter Camp in Scotland.

According to Tohyama Sensei, his result (stretching, Kihon, Ido, Kata, Press Ups and Kumite) was the best compare to any other candidates.
